Dr Lauren Ayton is a clinician at the Centre for Eye Research Australia. She is a qualified optometrist who has also worked in the areas of traumatic brain injury and eye movements.

Dr Ayton has practiced in varied clinical situations. She has a specific interest in low vision and paediatric optometry, and has also volunteered overseas to provide eye care in developing countries.

As part of the Bionic Vision Australia consortium, Dr Ayton is the Clinical Research Co-ordinator for the bionic eye project.

Research Interests

Dr Ayton’s research interests include low vision and degenerative eye diseases such as retinitis pigmentosa and age-related macular degeneration.
 
Her doctoral studies explored the effect of eye movement abnormalities on vision and learning abilities in children.

Her post-doctoral research contributed to a TAC-funded research project looking at eye movements in children with traumatic brain injury.
