Biography

Prior to his appointment to Chairman of Bionic Vision Australia, Professor Penington held the positions of Professor of Medicine, Dean and Vice Chancellor, at the University of Melbourne.

Professor Penington chaired Neurosciences Victoria from 2002 to 2005; Cerylid (previously Ex-Genix) Ltd, from 2001 to 2003; and Cochlear Ltd, from 1995 to 2002. He was Chair of the CRC for Cellular Growth Factors from 1996 to 2002, prior to which he was Director of Pacific Dunlop Ltd, from 1991 to 2000.

Professor Penington chaired Bio21 Australia Ltd from 2002 to 2009 and has been a member of Foursight Associates Pty Ltd since 1996.

Professor Penington served as Chairman of BVA from 2010 until 2013.
