2014 is going to be a big year in bionic vision research at BVA and we're already well under way. We will be extending our current patient study, testing a new version of our prototype with patients and continuing to develop our Wide-View and High-Acuity devices. Find out more about our research priorities for 2014.
This year we will be extending the current patient study with the 24-electrode, early prototype device until mid-2014 to learn more about psychophysics and vision procession. Extending this study will also help us develop effective measures for improvements in vision.

We will develop a new, fully implantable version of the early prototype device with 24 electrodes for another round of patient tests in 2014.

Researchers will be continuing development, safety and efficacy studies with the 98 electrode, Wide-View device and the 256 and 1024 electrode High-Acuity devices to prepare for future patient tests.

Research and development of the bionic eye continues in 2014 thanks to a grant extension from the Australian Research Council. To further progress the technology to clinical trials and commercial application, however, further sources of government, philanthropic and/or venture capital funding are required.
